Here's today's Medical Minute written by Dr. Aaron Bellow Jr. at the School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. When doctors visit patients remotely with the use of audio or video, this is called telehealth. Telehealth has increased dramatically with the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. Most new patients using telehealth receive care depending on whether their issues relate to COVID-19. COVID-related complaints can lead to screening to determine if the patient meets current testing criteria. Patients can also request doctor's notes letting them self-isolate while sick or awaiting test results. Non-COVID-19 related appointments include refills for medications, renewal of referrals, and other routine health care issues that would be normally taken by a primary care provider. Telehealth has allowed patients to maintain social distance for those who are well.
